ITINERARY

We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
Our day starts with a visit to the Bure Valley Railway and a 45 minute journey by steam train through the picturesque Norfolk countryside to Wroxham. On arrival, we disembark and take a leisurely 15 minute stroll to Wroxham Bridge, from where we embark on the next stage of our journey, a 90 minute circular cruise of the Norfolk Broads, arriving back at Wroxham Bridge. We can enjoy a relaxed lunch before exploring Wroxham and returning to our hotel mid-afternoon.
Today we travel to the market town of Wymondham to board the Heart of Norfolk Heritage Railway for a one-way, 11 mile journey to Dereham.  Sit back as the usually steam hauled train takes us through the Norfolk countryside. This afternoon, we make our way to Sandringham House and Gardens, the much loved country retreat of Her Majesty, The Queen. The house, set in 24 hectares of stunning gardens, has knowledgeable guides in every room and the museum houses collections of Royal vehicles, rare ceramics, photographs and memorabilia. We spend the day exploring the house, gardens, museum and Visitor Centre.
This morning we have free time to enjoy the classic Norfolk seaside town of Great Yarmouth, known for its long sandy beach. Aside from the Pleasure Beach, we can choose from the Time and Tide Museum, which details local history or the Nelson Museum, which as the name suggests, focuses on Admiral Lord Nelson. There is also Merrivale Model Village if the weather is on our side. For lunch we travel to Norwich. Having sated our hunger there is plenty to explore in this medieval city, from the cathedral with its ornate cloisters and the city’s imposing gates, which lead to a once Saxon marketplace, to the Museum of Norwich and shopping opportunities.

Our day begins by travelling west for a visit to The Scottish Crannog Centre, where we enjoy a guided tour, providing us with a unique insight into life in the Iron Age. From here, we make our way to the Queen’s View Visitor Centre which lies in the heart of Highland Perthshire in one of the most photographed areas of Scotland. Perhaps named after its links with Queen Isabella of Scotland, the first wife of Robert the Bruce, or Queen Victoria, who visited in 1866, the view from here is regarded as Highland Perthshire’s most iconic.

ITINERARY

We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
We spend this morning in the charming market town of Barnstaple, the largest town in North Devon and located on the River Taw. The ancient town preserves a medieval character and we have time to enjoy its points of interest, including the historic Pannier Market. Its wide range of stalls offer everything from local produce, flowers and crafts, to fashion, prints and pictures. We have time for lunch in one of the cosy bars or cafés before we make our way to the stunning Hartland Abbey and Gardens. A popular filming location, many films and TV programmes have been filmed here, including the Sense & Sensibility TV mini-series and Enid Blyton’s Malory Towers.
This morning, we spend time at leisure in the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth, where we can take the cliff railway from one to the other! The unique Victorian water powered funicular cliff lift will transport us 500ft up and down to the villages, where we can explore their little independent shops selling local produce, gifts, arts and crafts. In the afternoon, we head back to Illfracombe, where we have free time to relax on the seafront and explore the attractions and picturesque natural harbour.
This morning, we make our way to enchanting RHS Garden,  Rosemoor. Nestled in the Torridge Valley, the Rosemoor gardens are eye catching at any time of year with several gardens to explore, including the fragrant rose gardens, the brightly coloured Hot Garden, the Foliage Garden, Stone Garden and Exotic Garden to name but a few. In the afternoon, we spend time at leisure in the traffic-free lanes of the historic harbour town of Bideford. Explore the quirky little shops, the riverside quay and the historic indoor Pannier market.

ITINERARY

We visit Leeds Castle today, often described as the “loveliest castle in the world”. We discover the beautiful castle rooms and explore the lovely grounds, riverside woodland garden and Mediterranean terrace garden, from where we can enjoy beautiful views over the serene lake and parkland. Other attractions include bird of prey displays, a maze and grotto, the Dog Collar Museum, Elsie the land train and the Black Swan Ferry (seasonal) (small charges apply for the train/ferry).
Today we have a chance to view beautiful meadows at Ightham Mote, a romantic 14th century moated manor house, garden and estate with a charming courtyard, orchard and extensive grounds where carpets of flowers blossom during the summer months. After lunch we make our way to moated Scotney Castle. We relax in the picturesque garden with its glorious backdrop of a fairytale castle, venture into the beautiful grounds and discover the delights of its Victorian country mansion house with all its secrets and stories. ITINERARY

We make our way to Portsmouth this morning for our ferry crossing to Fishbourne from where we continue to our hotel.

A day to enjoy the delights of the Isle of Wight at your leisure with an opportunity to visit what was once Queen Victoria’s much-loved palatial seaside home; Osborne House.
Today, we board our coach for a circular tour of the island, which boasts 60 miles of spectacular coastline and stunning scenery, affording plenty of magnificent views. We start our day in the historic port town of Yarmouth which is home to the oldest architecture on the island, including a 16th century castle, and a grade 2 listed pier. We continue on to the Needles Park which boasts fabulous ocean views and is home to the iconic chairlift, which operates from the cliff-top at Alum Bay down to the beach below where we can see the Needles Rocks and coloured sands. We then continue our journey to St Catherine’s Lighthouse – the Isle of Wight’s most famous landmark.
This morning, we enjoy a journey on the award winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway.  Settling back on our leisurely 5 mile journey, we travel on two stretches of line, starting at Havenstreet Station from where we travel to Smallbrook Junction.  From here, we enjoy a return trip to Havenstreet, where we will embark on the next stage of our journey to Wootton, before returning again to Havenstreet.  In the afternoon, we spend time at leisure in Sandown or Ryde, with time to explore all that these traditional resorts have to offer.

ITINERARY

We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
We spend this morning in Gloucester with time to explore at leisure. We can visit the medieval Cathedral (used in most of the Harry Potter films as Hogwarts), the award-winning Gloucester Waterways Museum overlooking the River Severn, and the recently restored historic Victorian Docks that now buzz with museums, shops, boats and restaurants. We can even take a 45 minute boat trip on the Gloucester canal on one of the boats that took part in the Dunkirk evacuation. In the afternoon we make our way to the delightful Cotswold village of Painswick, famous for its churchyard with 99 yew trees and the famous yew clipping ceremony in September. While here, we visit the Rococo Garden, designed in the 1740s for the owner to use as his ‘playground’. Positioned in a hidden valley offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, it features intriguing garden buildings, magical follies and flowers and colours that transform by the seasons.
This morning we have some free time to explore Cheltenham at leisure. This Regency town, made popular as a spa destination by George III, is brimming with history. As we stroll along the promenade, it’s easy to see why it became a favourite amongst 18th century aristocrats after its health-giving spa waters were discovered. Cheltenham is also famous for its festival and the Gold Cup, so it is fitting that we head to Cheltenham Racecourse to board the Gloucester-Warwickshire steam train to the nearby town of Broadway, nesting in the Cotswolds. Here, we have time to browse this interesting Cotswold town before returning to our hotel.
Today we take an excursion by coach around the Cotwolds, visiting Bourton on the Water, known as the ‘Little Venice’ of the Cotswolds. We then head to the market town of Stow on the Wold before returning to our hotel with a final stop in charming Chipping Campden en route.

ITINERARY

We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
After spending the morning at leisure in our lovely hotel or strolling into the village to explore the shops, we make our way after lunch to the Elan Valley Visitor Centre, set in a fantastic location against a spectacular backdrop of a Victorian stone dam.
This morning, we visit the impressive Powis Castle which began life as a medieval fortress. We spend time at leisure exploring the magnificent collections contained in the castle and its world-famous garden, with spectacular yew hedges and lavish herbaceous borders, as well as a superb collection of treasures from India displayed in the Clive Museum.

Today we travel to the popular seaside resort of Aberystwyth where we board the Vale of Rheidol Railway (past winner of Coach Friendly Heritage Railway of the Year) for a nostalgic journey through some of Wales’ most spectacular scenery. During our 3 hour round trip our narrow gauge steam locomotive climbs 700ft during the 12 mile journey from Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge, home of the famous waterfalls. We spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure exploring Aberystwyth’s many attractions, including the harbour, pier, beach, castle and the longest electric cliff railway in Britain.

After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
